Laurie Miller
Artist Statement:
Laurie began her creative life at the age of three with tap dancing. She then proceeded to add playing the violin, piano, and bass to her creativity.
While attending Penn State, studying theatre arts with a dance emphasis, Laurie took art classes that touched her soul. After graduating from Penn State, Laurie attended CCA (California College of Arts) and received a degree in design.
She then worked in the graphic design business in the Bay Area for several years. For the past 20 years she has made a living as a musician/bass player/singer-songwriter/music teacher. Laurie has five CDs currently published, and at night after her gigs and teaching she creates her artwork.
Laurie’s award winning artwork has shown in both group and solo gallery exhibitions and events. Laurie has sold several pieces of her artwork, especially limited edition giclee prints of her ‘Plant People’ painting. Laurie is also a member of the Women in the Arts.
Laurie enjoys painting in several styles. Currently she is focusing on her surrealistic, abstract, and nature series. Her surrealistic style is created with watercolors, acrylics, and pastels. Sometimes she uses the technique of removing masking fluid randomly placed to add movement and energy to her pieces. Her artistic influences are Salvador Dali and Marc Chagall. “I have an inner drive to release all of the images and creations that are swimming inside of me.”
“It’s not how many times you fall down, but how many times you get back up.”
